Update:
0.6.2 : Now includes a manual check for updating, and an auto check for updates. You can also import bookmarks from a standardized export from your current browser.
The # (hashtag) mark denotes certain functionality, mainly navigation related behavior within the Shotgun community. While Shotgun does not track individual users, sites are aggregated and hashtags are utilized to facilitate reaching popular locations online. You’ll find the Bookmark features here as well.
The Settings Gear provides a location for a default landing page, if the chat tray will open immediately upon opening Shotgun, a default downloads folder feature, the option to open a new tab when clicking on a Trending feature (mentioned above), filtering chat functions, your subscription status, and if you’ve been given an activation code, you would place it here. Finally, personal emotes, which are icons you upload to the deploy in chat whenever you want. These are granted to subscription holders.
The letter icon (Messages) allows for communication related to the friends who whisper messages to you directly, which starts a communication channel.
The Bell icon is for notices received from friends or others if you allow them, regarding the Magnet function. So, you’ll see requests from people to either join you at your location, or join them at their location.
There is a larger Profile bar that contains a notice that you are a subscriber or not, as well as a thumbnail you can change by clicking on this button, as well as your Public profile name. There are several features within this when you click on the button. More on that later.
Then there is the “Magnet” button, which opens a menu that allows you to create lists of friends in groups so you can invite them to a site of your choice when you and they are online. The notice will go out, and if you are all subscribers, you’ll land on the same page and a public chat feature will exist that is ephemeral (it goes away over time) and a private chat feature that is retained so you and your friends can have a conversation about a site.
Then there is the all important “Chat” button that swings out the chat window where people may be chatting about a site you are on.
Nothing impacts the site you are on, this chat is separate from the rest of the website you might be on. Transcending the penning in of users on the internet, one page at a time.
Enjoy riding Shotgun on the Internet.
